Vote-OK Update September 2009

The road to repeal with Vote-OK

Vote-OK was formed as a direct consequence of the ban on hunting and the comments by the then Rural Affairs Minister Alan Michael “if people wish to continue their opposition to legislation, they have the option of the ballot box through which to express their views.”

Our principal aim is repeal of the Hunting Act. We are busily organising an army of volunteers from the length and breadth of the UK to campaign locally for over 140 pro-repeal Prospective Parliamentary Candidates in key marginal seats where there is a real chance we could make a difference. We are legitimately helping to elect MPs and bring about a Government that is sympathetic to the countryside and deliver repeal.

Despite the recent unravelling of the Hunting Act with the collapse of several court cases, it is vital that everyone understands the urgent and clear need for repeal. The Act isn’t working, it’s illiberal, unworkable, contributes nothing to animal welfare and continues to put intolerable strain on hunts and hunt staff trying to operate within the law. The current situation is not sustainable and we must repeal the Act for the benefit of future generations.

If you have time to hunt you have time to help

As at mid October we are approximately only 200 days away from a General Election. The election campaign has started in earnest in many areas and hunts up and down the country are already out and about leafleting, stuffing envelopes and canvassing for pro-repeal candidates.

I would encourage you all to support your Vote-OK Campaigner in their efforts to involve your hunt in this proactive ‘feet on the street’ campaigning. Your support really can make a huge impact and could be the difference between winning and losing a key target seat.

At the last election we faced an up hill battle but Vote-OK volunteers still helped to replace 29 anti-hunting MPs. This time our task is more ambitious . . . but much more achievable.

This is not a dress rehearsal. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a real difference and get this pointless piece of legislation overturned and with your help we can safeguard the future of hunting for many, many generations to come.

We need your help right now
